Reserved parking?

Are you freaking kidding me?  I've heard of these spots but have never seen one before today.  I laughed so hard at the absurdity of this sign.  I mean really.  Who thinks these things up?

I swear to god that if this spot is ever open at a time when I happen to be at the mall I will park in it as a small act of civil disobedience.  I dare someone to question me.

As seen at my local shopping mall.

  1. Horrible signs! In most of the shopping malls in my country the best 10 - 20 parking places are marked with the same signs.

    1. 10-20?!?! That would make me not want to go to the mall ever. Heck, one sign makes me not want to go to the mall.

  2. It actually doesn't surprise me to be honest. We have similar types of reserved parking in our shopping malls here. Actually, this reminds me of the one labelled "Reserved Pram Parking". It was for cars that have prams or something. It was just after another failed ivf cycle and we had to go to this particular shopping mall for groceries. D was really angry at the time so he parked in it. I asked him why he did that as we don't have a pram and his reply was, "Why should they get special benefits because they can have kids and we can't." He was not a happy chappy that particular day. I could almost hear him growling everytime a woman with a pram came near him.

    1. My thing is...these are courtesy spots, not required by law (at least in the US) and therefore you can't be ticketed for parking there. So good for D for parking there! :)

    2. I'm totally with D, Carmody!! Just the kind of person I like to go out in public with.

  3. Yep, we have these at our local mall... no signs, but marked by a red & yellow stroller painted on the pavement (just as a wheelchair is painted on the spot for disabled drivers). You're supposed to have a special sticker on your windshield to merit a disabled spot, but no such qualifications for the stroller spots. :p Presumably you have a stroller but what if you're pregnant & not showing? Is someone going to demand you submit to a pregnancy test to prove your worthiness?? Bah!!

    1. Exactly!!! Though now that I think about this, stroller windshield placards that designate eligibility to park in stroller spots (much like a handicapped permit) would be a great way for states to raise revenue. ;)

  4. Loribeth said exactly what I would have said.

  5. Wow - I'm behind. This is the official beginning of me stalking you with comments.

I should drive to that parking spot, it's only, what, six hours from Long Island or so?? I tried to conceive for four years, a six hour drive ain't nothin. This may not sound like a big deal, but I have and "Infertile on Board" sign, lest we forget. Anyway, due to my twisted and generally low minded nature, I'd love to park there for the day (I'll even get up early to make the trip - hark!), set up survelliance, and laugh at the passer bys. They really need a reserved spot for people grieving the loss of their children, after all, we simply work harder.

    1. We could do a scientific experiment. Park an "infertile on board" car in one of these spots at an uppity mall, at Walmart, Target, etc. to see where people react the most passionately. This could be so fun!

This is one thing you may actually want to get up before the crack of noon to do! ;p
