I'm alive

I had my diagnostic laparoscopy on Friday.  Everything went well and I'm at home recovering.  Hubs is taking good care of me.  So is the dog.

The doctor found one spot of endometriosis and removed it.  There was an ovarian cyst on my right ovary that was drained.  She also found a hematoma somewhere in there too and took care of it. (Do yourself a favor and don't google this.)  Unfortunately I didn't get to talk to the doctor after the procedure, so everything I know is what she told hubs (and sometimes he's not so great with details). Overall, it seems like everything went like it was supposed to, but I'll find out more details at my follow-up appointment in two weeks.

Recovery has been a bit slower than expected, though I think this is probably because this was my first surgery of any kind, and I had unreasonable expectations for myself.  I'm trying really hard to not overdo it.  I think I'll wait at least another day or two before attempting driving.  Lifting things is going to take a bit longer.  I'm glad that I have the whole week off of work and that we already decided not to travel for Thanksgiving.

I really appreciate all of the emails, comments and texts with well wishes.  It really meant a lot to know that my tribe was thinking about me.

  3. Glad to hear that things went smoothly. Please do take care of yourself. I pushed myself too hard with recovering and it always set me back. It's quite a job getting yourself to relax, but I promise it will pay off.

Thinking of you as you continue to heal

    1. Relaxing and taking things slowly aren't really part of who I am, so this really has been a fight between listening to my body and ignoring all of the things that I "need" to do.

  5. Oh, I hope you're healing up well and every day is easier. I hope the gas pains aren't too bad. It's good that you can take it slow and take care of your recovering body! I'm glad they took care of what they found, and there wasn't anything too scary (other than the hematoma which sounds scary)...I feel like there's a sort of relief in being like, "SEE? There WAS something off in there!" I hope you have a restful Thanksgiving and I'll be thinking of you!

    1. The gas was the worst part! I made the mistake of trying to lie flat the first night. Not wise.

There's definitely a bit of that smug "see...." thing going on. I have a post brewing on this, but I think I'll wait until after my follow-up on December 6th.

  6. Oh, I'm so glad things went (relatively) smoothly, and I hope your recovery is progressing nicely. (Aside from having my wisdom teeth out, I've never had surgery either -- and I'm not anxious to break my record...!) Take it easy!! <3

  7. I'm so glad everything went well! It's nice you don't have to worry about work for a week and can focus on recovery. I also hope that the surgery solve some problems and you will feel so much better!
