Mother Nature listened to my pleas

In my last post I mentioned that a snow storm would be mighty convenient in light of my sister's baby shower and my niece's 5th birthday party this weekend.  Well, I got my wish.  It started snowing around 3:30 yesterday afternoon and didn't stop until around noon today.  When it was all said and done we ended up with about nine inches (which is nothing compared to what areas further east got).  I wouldn't go as far as to say that we were snowed in, but it was enough snow that the Department of Transportation asked residents to stay at home unless they absolutely needed to go out.  Since we didn't need to go anywhere we stayed home all day, watched X-Files (in preparation for the reboot starting tomorrow night!),  played board games, and ate way too much food.

While I really was ok with whatever snap judgements that people made about me for not attending the shower, having a big snow storm as an excuse definitely made a dent in the criticism and made me look like not quite as much of an ass for not attending.  :)

    1. I know!!! A big shout out to Mother Nature for dumping enough snow on us to make travel not possible, but not so much that we had to worry about our roof collapsing or losing power.

  3. How perfect. And the best thing is that it was all guilt-free.

By the way, I still don't think you'd look like an ass for not attending. Be nicer to yourself, ya hear?

    1. I'm trying to be nice to myself. It's one of the things I'm working on for 2016. At least I don't feel like an ass, I just worry about looking like one. :)

I actually thought of you yesterday....we made spaghetti and bolognese sauce, all from scratch, and enjoyed it with a nice red blend. Reminded me of your pasta and chardonnay nights.

  4. I am so glad that Mother Nature helped.
And obviously you had to obey the department of transportation. You stayed at home since you didn't absolutely need to go out :)

    1. Yes, I wouldn't have wanted to get a ticket for driving during a snow emergency. Or, you know, get into a wreck and die or be seriously hurt. :)

  5. It's really been coming down. And 9 inches is enough to make travel unsafe (at least until things are cleared). I'm glad Mother Nature gave you an excellent excuse. Anyone who harasses you now falls into the category of reckless and insane.

  6. Here’s a quote from a local news article I read yesterday. It was about setting goals for yourself but I think it applies to us all reading these blogs: "Self care is not selfish. It's how you meet your obligations to all the people who might count on you," he said. "It's not only not selfish; it's doing the right thing by all the other people in your life.”

And I think that includes our obligations and doing the right thing to ourselves.

Aaah, how sweet. There‘s nothing like Mother Nature stepping in for a change and providing you with a guilt free excuse to decline an invitation.

    1. Self-care really isn't selfish at all. It's only within the past year or so that I've learned that lesson too. I've always been the one to sacrifice my emotions, pleasure, enjoyment, etc. to make sure others were happy. You probably still see glimpses of it.
